NEWS:
Composer and conductor, Wong Kah Chun (YSTCM Graduate Class of 2011) was one of the three recipients of the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship to pursue postgraduate studies. This scholarship typically goes to high-flying civil servants and corporate types but for the first time this year a musician has received the award. The scholarship carries no bond, but awardees are expected to contribute to Singapore after graduating.
Kah Chun, who last year set up Kids' Philharmonic@sg, an orchestra for children, plans to promote music education among young people when he returns from his studies. He said "Playing music in an orchestra builds discipline, control and restraint - traits that young people should develop".
